Every decision that you make affects your future. In my opinion, we are all one decision away from something (good, bad, and ugly). We often tell ourselves, “If I knew then, what I know now…” things would be different.
Have you ever considered flipping this around and writing a letter to yourself reminding you of who you are?
Could you tell yourself 10, 20, or 30+ years, that at my core, this is who I am, these are my goals, and that I am worthy regardless of what hurdles I have to face?
Mine might look something like this:
Dear Self,
First off, you look great! Anyone is lucky to have you in their life. I hope you have let go of all of your insecurities and overcome your fears. You have been trekking along with this life, trying to defy gravity every step of the way and I am so proud of you.
I hope that the love of your life is still in love with you as it was in the beginning. And even if there is no one special in your life, know that you are loved. As it has been said in various forms by many, in this world, there are a lot of things beyond your control. But what we do have control of is how to react to whatever happens in your life. You are handling life like a pro.
As you look back over your life, the journey thus far has been quite a roller coaster ride. It has been full of ups and downs, rights and wrongs, and yet you still survived. People have come in and out of your life. You have been abandoned by so call friends. The family has even abandoned you. But, this was only to make you stronger and a better person. It was only a season. I hope you have found clarity and surround yourself with people who have your best interest in mind.
Let me remind you that you are smart, you are kind and you are intelligent. You have had successes and failures. Above all, you have never given up. You have always remained focused on your goals and along the way you have overcome many obstacles. You keep raising the bar. I hope that you are, most of all, happy. You certainly deserve it.
Warm Regards,
Past Self
P.S. – It was so easy. You had this the whole time.
Remember this person for the next 10+ years. Are you living your life to the fullest? Or are you standing by waiting for someone else to tell you how to live your life?
It’s difficult to know where you will be in the future. However, sometimes we need reminders of where we came from, who we are, and where we are going.
